I don’t have a particular favourite either, I used to always buy Asics runners but then changed to Adidas. I think from a science perspective, Adidas, Nike, Puma, New Balance and Asics have big biomechanics research departments which is cool, it’s always interesting to talk to people working for them who come to conferences (big science meetings) to hear what exciting things they are working on.
I’ve never worked with any sports brands so I don’t really know what goes on behind the scenes in terms of their business strategy or the way that they develop and test their products.
However I am a bit of a gear junkie – I like Saucony trainers, Icebug shoes for trail running, Nike and Craft running kit, and outdoor gear from Scarpa, Rab and Teva. But I always try to look at the piece of kit, its features, how it fits me and how it is made as opposed to the brand name.
