Liking it is a big help! Knowing about science and what science can potentially do gives you lots of career options – there is lots of variety in the things you do every day and the things you can do. You are not limited to only being able to work in science. People with science degrees work in all sorts of different jobs in business, management and the arts. Science also gives you a chance to make a real difference to people’s lives and be able to make a contribution to what the future will be like for other humans, animals and plants on the earth.

I would say that if you are interested in shaping future technology or medical practice in the world then science is a great path to follow. I think the skills that you learn by studying science can be quite versatile e.g. analytical skills and problem solving as well as the specialist knowledge that you will get from studying a particular branch of science.

Science jobs are also some of the jobs in the world that are least likely to become automated so are a robust career – as well as being well paid and in high demand. But of course I would only say that science is the best career option for you if you actually like science too!

The job is varied plus there are so many options as a job within the area of Science. The skills you use on a daily basis are well sought after in many other industries, such as business, so if later on in life you fancy a career change you have transferrable skills so you can apply for other jobs. Although my father always instilled me that enjoying your job is incredibly important.
