In Ireland, we do exams called the Junior and Leaving Certificates that are similar to GCSEs and A-Levels here in the UK. I did 11 subjects for my Junior Certificate (Irish, English, Maths, French, German, History, Geography, Science, Religion, Business Studies, and a subject called Civic Social and Political Education which teaches you about things like law, development, rights and responsibilities, the environment). I used to play a lot of hockey in school and Wednesday was the day most matches were played so I ended up missing a lot of Home Economics, Art and Music classes so I didn’t do those for exams as that’s when they were on. I did Irish, English, Maths, Business Studies, Accounting, Physics and French for my Leaving Certificate – I didn’t really enjoy essay writing in English and preferred subjects with numbers!
