I work at Loughborough University, in the School of Sport, Exercise, and Health Sciences. There’s between 300 and 400 staff and research students in our school, and of that, around 35 are working in the same are of sport science as me which is called biomechanics. We currently have five labs which we use for our experiments, and in each one there is different pieces of equipment. We all do work in different sports, and do different types of experiments to learn different things about the human body. My office is based in the National Centre for Sport and Exercise Medicine, which has lots of different scientists based in the same building, as well as lots of doctors and people working in related sports and medical areas; this allows us to work closely with those who will use our research first, so we can make a difference very quickly. The International Olympic Committee has recognized our School as one of only 9 places worldwide which does excellent research into sport, sports injuries, injury prevention and physical activity. This makes it quite an exciting and varied place to work, and very relevant to the research I like to do 🙂
