Absolutely. I was introduced to science by some passionate and engaging teachers, Sheila Carey who taught me Sports Studies and Dr Kevin Tansley who taught me Human Biology. Without them I would not have seen science for what it is.
I definitely would! My science teachers definitely helped and encouraged me, but my P.E. teacher was really the one who sparked my interest in physiology (we studied some basic sports science when we did P.E. theory at GCSE). Also, my parents are both scientists so they encouraged and helped me too.
My science teachers, and all teachers, always worked to help me achieve my potential. And along the way tried hard to make the harder subject matter as engaging and memorable as possible. I would definitely thank them for giving me the confidence to know that you don’t always get things right first time, but with hard work and patience, you can often achieve more than you thought was possible.
Yes, I was lucky to have some really excellent encouraging science teachers in school, as well as a super maths teacher called Ms Storey who was actually doing her PhD part-time as the same time as preparing us for exams. We had a few classes which went off course and had nothing to do with what we needed to know for exams, instead she showed us some maths things she was doing and some very cool proofs – it was a lot of fun and she really prepared us for university
